Obrim aquesta primera entrada de notícies o curiositats, mostrant un poble de Gales que compta amb el rècord del topònim més llarg del Regne Unit, el més llarg d’Europa, i el tercer més llarg del món:

“Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyllllantysiliogogogoch”

ST MARYS CHURCH IN THE HOLLOW OF THE WHITE HAZEL NEAR

TO THE RAPID WHIRLPOOL OF LLANTYSILIO OF THE RED CAVE

Usually known only as Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, it’s a small town in Northern Wales, on the island of Anglesey. It has become known for its strange name, but also for its difficulty in pronouncing it. In fact, a weatherman became some sort of celebrity for a while, after being able to nail the name during one of his weather forecasts.

The name sounds like a lot of gibberish, but in fact, it includes names of places that can be found in the village, including St Mary’s Church and the church of Tysilio among others. Notable people coming from Llanfairpwllgwyngyll include actress Naomi Watts, soprano and Harpist Siobhan Owen, and actor Taron Egerton, who has recently played Elton John in the movie Rocketman (2019). Here he is on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon Show and alongside Hugh Jackman, showing the correct pronunciation of Llanfairpwllgwyngyll.
